Within this site, you will find pictures of most of my sculpture and illustration work.

Technical skill is one of my passions. I hold high respect for displays of refined craft. As a craft person, I am intimately familiar with the challenges of shaping materials. I appreciate how much knowledge and coordination it takes to master the dialogue of turning raw materials into willful personal expressions. Highly refined work shows that the artist possesses a deep understanding of the material they are working. They have learned, not just how to impose their will on a material, but also to “listen” to the material. Through listening, one comes to a greater understanding of a material’s limits and abilities and a greater understanding of how to manipulate those limits and abilities.

A Note About Photo Representations

Digital photographs almost never convey the complex characteristics of original works. Especially in the case of sculptures because photos omit the roundness and depth of a real object. My own sculptures are very small scale and most of them are meant to be held in the hands in order to fully appreciate them. Their textures, weight, and mechanical mobility are rather lost in the representations of them on this web site. However, they should portray an idea of what the work is about and generally how it looks.
